Coloured Echoes of the Wild — Gond Set of 3

A set of three Gond paintings by Rameshwar Dhruve in rotring pen and acrylic on canvas — three animals tied to specific beliefs in Gond tribal life, each one considered a carrier of luck or divine presence in the forest. Rameshwar paints them as a way of passing that energy from the jungle into the home

£70.00

Description

The porcupine is considered the vehicle of the Jungle Devi — spotting one in the forest is treated as a direct sighting of the goddess herself. The deer and peacock are painted together deliberately: among the Baiga tribe, seeing these two side by side is considered so auspicious that Mahua wine is offered to Shiv, nagada drums are played, and the scale of the celebration matches the scale of the luck.

The lion carries the same significance as in Rameshwar’s other work — the first deity of the Dhruve clan, believed to bring good energy. Paintings of it are made for pooja and gifted at daughters’ weddings. The tree on its back carries that energy with it.

Each piece is drawn freehand with rotring pens, no stencils or grids. The ink does the heavy lifting — colour is used sparingly across all three: a few warm scales on the porcupine, scattered dots on the peacock, painted leaves on the lion’s tree. This ink-led approach is specific to Rameshwar and not something other Gond artists replicate in the same way.

Display all three in a row along a hallway wall or on a shelf ledge. The horizontal format and shared palette hold them together as a set. Black frames with a white mount keep it clean.
