Moving Forest

A vertical Gond painting by Rameshwar Dhruve in rotring pen and acrylic on canvas — a herd of deer moving through the grassland together. In Gond belief, wherever deer gather freely, the forest is at peace — and witnessing it is considered lucky.

£120.00

Description

The chappar — the grassland ecosystem at the base — is Rameshwar’s signature. It’s not decorative; it marks the ground the animals belong to. Rameshwar paints these deer gathering by choice, not by force — and in Gond life, that distinction matters. A herd moving together freely is read as a sign that the forest is settled and safe.

Each deer is built from a different combination of pattern and colour — wave scales, crosshatching, stippled dots — all freehand across multiple rotring pen sizes, with colour applied by brush. The tree at the top is drawn entirely in ink, its cloud-shaped canopy filled with fine concentric dot work.

Styling: The vertical 24×12 format suits tall walls, corridors, and staircases. The height of the piece draws the eye upward. Works well as a standalone statement or as an anchor in a vertical arrangement of Gond pieces. Simple dark or natural wood frame.
